Leszek Opoka

Leszek said:”I was 21, when i lost half arm in terrible accident when I worked at home in garage on my carpenter machine. After the accident I was a volunteer for first hand transplantation on the Trzebnica hospital. I heard about Professor Kocięba. He did one of the first replant hand on the world in 70.s years.”

The Trzebnica center is renowned for its treatment of hand trauma injuries; what’s more it is here where in 1971 the first hand replantation in Poland was carried out, under the supervision of Prof. Ryszard Kocięba.
Leszek remember : ” …once time I watched news on TV. One of the stories was about hand transplantation in France. Next day I called to the Trzebnica Hospitall and told with Professor Kocieba. He saw that story too… It was year 1999… I met with the doctors of the clinic, we discussed my problem. I did all medical exams before it was official hospital procedure. And then came the years of hope, disappointment, despair, and hope again. I lost my hope and suddenly , it was the 1 April 2006, I got a call from the Hospital The surgery team make it under the leadership of Professor Jerzy Jabłecki …So began my new life! “-
